September 5, 2013, Thursday, Philippines- As part of my daily routine - opening the internet and checking of emails from branches. The new face of yahoo's logo catches my attention and to my surprise - yes they had a fresh new logo.
After 18 years of Yahoo's existence in the Internet, the company decided to design a new logo, but this wasn't that easy to come out, it took about a month of 30 day trial for the next face the company's logo. After dozens of designs, the CEO herself Marissa Mayer, former Google executive, spent one weekend last month ago to design and conceptualize the new logo, together with her colleagues.
"We knew we wanted a logo that reflected Yahoo — whimsical, yet sophisticated,...modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud." - Mayer wrote in her Tumblr account.
The new logo retains some of the element of the old logo, like its color - purple, and its exclamation point. They didn't want a straight lines in the new logo, they said that straight lines doesn't exist in the human form, so the human touch in the logo is that all the lines and forms all have at least a slight curve. They also preferred letters had thicker and thinner strokes. The font that is being used is "sans serif font style with "scallops" on the end of the letters, and retain the OO's as its famous for the yahoo logo.
However the new and sophisticated logo, gain some negative comments from experts and yet people are still talking about it.
Yahoo is still behind by its rivals Google Inc. and Facebook Inc. but their stocks are increasing about 80 percent.
